This project was a challenge set by myself to think of as many mech designs as I possibly could that were inspired by beetles. Beetles are hardy creatures, so I decided that these mechs were in fact vehicles that can traverse the harshest of environments where nothing can grow and thrive. The end result was an illustration that is one of my favorites.
Ever since I was a child I used to love drawing mechs of all kind, so I thought I’d design beetles as mechs as a project for my Rookie Awards 2024 Entry. The overlays I put over my sketches give it that traditional feel of pen and ink drawings and the landscape concepts I thought up were for designing utterly decimated landscapes for the bots to traverse with their Jockeys.
